»Alices Geschwister« tells the story of a clever and curious girl who is “different” and cannot conform to socially standardised paradigms.
Lewis Carroll’s novel “Alice in Wonderland” serves as a foil for a multimedia fabric of video, music, song, language, and drama that oscillates between the bizarre, the comic, and the tragic, as the novel already anticipates various psychological border crossings: Alice talks to herself, converses with animals, experiences sensory illusions and lives through various adventures with thoroughly strange and fantastic characters.
Is she just an extremely imaginative girl, or does she live on the edge of borderline symptoms and schizophrenic delusions?
In »Alices Geschwister« reinterpretation, Alice does not fall down a deep rabbit hole, but is admitted to a psychiatric institution. To escape everyday life in the hospital, Alice creates her own reality and creates imaginary friends, duplicate selves, a Cheshire cat and Lewis Carroll himself.
»Alices Geschwister« takes the audience on a journey into the delusional and comical world of a mental asylum and interweaves original quotes from the novel with letters from patients, her own texts, and songs to create a bizarre and tragic texture.
